Finally! The moment is here. We are proud to present the first 2d-impressions of the first Coda Watch design!
Geometry of Circles
The challenge was to design a unisex watch that is suitable for all occasions – whether it be a gala or a walk in the park. As a starting point we let go of all preconceived ideas about watches. Beauty in simplicity was our approach as we created a design for the watch case using a single shape. There is something oddly satisfying about maintaining a perfect geometric relation between the curving of the case and the curving of the dial. We found that a relation of 1:2 and a minimum width of 1 mm between the dial and the border of the case keeps the design slim, while preserving the unique aesthetics of a contemporary and elegant timepiece that references the classics.
The golden ratio is widely found in works of beauty, ranging from mother nature to architecture and the works of Dali. It is also the ratio determining the relationship between the length of our minute and hour hands.
But perhaps the most unique aspect of our watch design is the second hand. At Coda, we have set out on a mission to embody the value of time in a gift. It is one of our main beliefs that seconds shouldn’t be regarded just as seconds. They are part of something greater: a moment. This notion is expressed in our symmetrical second hand, which leaves the owner in dubio about which direction it points at. After all, the direction is wholly irrelevant – it is the moment that counts.
Choose the Vector
The vector consists of the minute and hour indicators. Because of the unique nature of our second hand, we were able to experiment with a wide variety of vectors. However we need your help. There are various ideas that appeal to us and we want to give you, the customer, a chance to have your voice heard. Therefore, we have lined up 4 choices below and we would love to hear which you like best!
Let us know below which design you prefer! All feedback is welcome in the comments.
